Organize Your Bedroom for the Winter Months

When people think of decluttering and organizing, spring cleaning often comes to mind. But fall is just as wonderful a time to clear out unused items from your home. With the weather cooling and the seasons changing, it is the perfect time to organize your bedroom, get rid of unnecessary clutter and store away seasonal items.

With fall upon us and winter just around the corner, the longer, colder nights mean it is time to put warmer sheets and duvets on the beds. It is also a great time to move around your furniture and do a good cleaning along baseboards, inside window tracks, and under your bed and dressers.

Declutter

As we always say, the first step in organizing is decluttering. By removing unwanted and unnecessary items, you will feel less overwhelmed and be able to focus on finding homes and creative storage solutions for your cherished items. As you declutter, decide on the best solution for each item: keep, donate, sell, or toss. A quick and easy way to do this is to create separate areas for each. You can also use boxes or bins. Label them with the above titles, so you can quickly toss items in either bin/pile. Once you have finished sorting, immediately dispose of the toss bin, and bring the donation items to your local shelter or donation center. List your sell items on your preferred platform (Facebook marketplace, Poshmark, consignment shop, etc.) Decide on a deadline for selling the items (one or two weeks), and if they don’t sell in that time, consider donating them instead. This will help prevent these items from once again becoming unwanted clutter.

Organize your Closet

No matter how organized your bedroom is, if your closet is a jam-packed mess, it can throw off the entire vibe of your bedroom. Our bedrooms are meant to be our sanctuaries, a place of calmness that we can go to at the end of a long, hectic day to relax and rejuvenate. A chaotic closet can disrupt this in an instant. If you struggle with your closet storage, it may be time to consider installing a closet storage system.

Use Creative Storage Solutions

Creative storage solutions such as these under-bed storage cases are a fantastic way to use otherwise wasted space. Use these to store off-season items, such as clothing, shoes, scarves, hats, and even seasonal bedding and decor.

If you love comfy blankets and throws but feel like you’re becoming buried under them, consider using a blanket ladder as a creative way to store and display these items. If you’re handy and like the challenge of DIY you can even easily build your own. Pillows and decorative cushions can be stored in a cute and functional basket and will keep them up off the floor when they’re not in use.

A pretty coat rack is a great way to store scarves and hats, or if you’re short on space, use a wall rack. Wall-mounted jewelry organizers are great for organizing and displaying jewelry.
