Decluttering and Organizing: Steps To a Clutter-Free Life

Decluttering and organizing, we often see these terms used interchangeably, and while they do go hand-in-hand, they are not the same.

Overconsumption is becoming an issue for many people. Everywhere we look, we are constantly bombarded with influencers telling us we need the newest gadget, makeup, clothing item, etc. Social media is brimming with affiliate marketers promoting the newest and greatest thing, making it so simple to click a link and have your order on your doorstep, sometimes within 24 hours!

Because of this, you’ve probably also seen the reels and TikTok’s about getting your home organized. There are endless storage solutions available making it easier to organize your home, but if your home is full of clutter, no matter how many bins you buy or boxes you use, your home will always feel chaotic.

Organizing isn’t just about stuffing unused and unwanted items away in a closet or bin, but instead being mindful of the things we need and use, creating a space for them when not in use, and disposing of the items that no longer serve us. This is why decluttering and organizing go hand-in-hand when creating a home where you feel good and that works for you.

The first step to not only getting organized but STAYING organized is to declutter.

Clutter makes its way into our homes daily, often without us even noticing until it has become an issue. Flyers, children’s school projects, extra toys, clothes you no longer wear, shoes, sporting equipment, books, cords and cables, almost empty products, reusable bags, kitchen utensils, containers, small appliances, expired medication…we could go on and on, but you get the idea.

Clutter can accumulate for many reasons; it can be as simple as wanting to try a new product (shampoo, body wash, etc) before finishing the old one, or it can be as intense as having an emotional attachment to certain items.

Learning the skills to keep your home clutter-free will make the biggest impact on having an organized home.

As with anything, learning a new skill takes time and practice. Sounds simple, but where do you start?

As professional organizers, our job involves not only decluttering and organizing your home for you but also setting you up for success so that you can maintain the results you achieved.

We love working with clients to assist them in decluttering and organizing their homes and figure out what is causing all the clutter to accumulate in the first place. As we work with you, we will teach you the skills needed to ensure your home remains clutter-free.
